It's a rare enough occasion when a new model MGB is announced so we were thrilled with this latest offering from Corgi Vanguards a 1980 MGB in Vermillion. This MGB at the traditional 1:43 scale is incredibly accurate with the impact absorbing bumpers, door mirrors, rear fog lights and interior all reproduced in fine detail. In the cockpit it even has the correct centre tunnel with armrest and a four spoke steering wheel. This model is very different from the October 1962 offering from Dinky Toys which was very innovative in its day with its opening doors but the casting technology back then certainly lacked the precise detail of this new Corgi model which has really neat shut lines and appears to be perfectly proportioned. It only deviates from original spec with a change to black seat trim rather than the deckchair stripe fabric covered items.
The model is based on an original MGB manufactured in 1980 and registered on the 1st August 1981 with the reg number AKC 80X. The model comes in a clear display box with a special card detailing the actual car's history from new when it was bought by a Mrs G Howard through to its present owner Stephen Coltman. Also in the box is an optional moulded detachable soft top complete with perspex windows, even the seams of the hood are accurately reproduced so you can display the MGB in open or closed form. This model is ideal for the serious collector being part of a limited edition of 1000 and each is individually numbered on the information card. Here is an opportunity to acquire an excellent MGB model which would not be out of place in any display case.
